How to Create an Instagram Business Profile

To use Social Cascade for publishing and analytics, your organization needs to have an Instagram Business Profile. This guide will walk you through the process of creating a new one from scratch or converting an existing personal account.

Step 1: Create a Personal Instagram Account

All professional Instagram accounts start as a personal profile. If your organization doesn't have an Instagram account yet, you must create one first.

  1. Download the Instagram app from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play Store (Android).
  2. Open the app and tap Sign Up.
  3. Enter your organization's email address or a phone number. Use a professional, shared email address if possible.
  4. Create a username and a strong password. Choose a username that is easy for customers to recognize and search for (e.g., @YourOrganizationName).

Step 2: Switch to a Professional Account

Once you've created or logged into your personal account, you can convert it to a professional one.

  1. Open the Instagram app and go to your profile.
  2. Tap the menu icon (three horizontal lines) in the top-right corner.
  3. Tap Settings and privacy, then scroll down and tap Account type and tools.
  4. Select Switch to professional account.
  5. Follow the on-screen prompts, tapping Continue through the information screens.

Step 3: Choose "Business" as Your Account Type

After you've agreed to switch to a professional account, you will be asked to choose between two options:

  • Creator: Best for public figures, content producers, artists, and influencers.
  • Business: Best for organizations, brands, retailers, and local businesses.

Select "Business" and tap Next. This will give you access to the features our platform needs for publishing and analytics.

Step 4: Complete Your Profile Information

After you've chosen "Business," you will be prompted to complete your professional profile.

  1. Select a Category: Choose a category that best describes your organization. This will appear on your profile under your name and helps people find your business.
  2. Add Contact Details: Provide a professional email, phone number, and physical address (if applicable). This information will appear as contact buttons on your profile. You can choose to hide this info if you prefer.
  3. Connect to a Facebook Page (Recommended): Instagram will prompt you to link your new Business Account to a Facebook Page. This step is crucial for unlocking all professional features, including our platform's publishing tools.
