Understanding Reach and Impressions
Overview
Reach and Impressions are two of the most fundamental metrics in your Analytics dashboard. They answer two related but distinct questions: How many people saw your content? And how many times was it shown?
Reach
Reach counts the number of unique accounts that saw your content. Each person is counted only once, regardless of how many times they viewed the same post. Reach tells you the size of the audience your content actually touched.
Impressions
Impressions count the total number of times your content was displayed, including repeat views by the same person. If one person sees your post three times, that counts as three impressions but only one reach.
Where to Find Them
- Go to your Analytics page from the left sidebar.
- The Overview section shows Reach and Impressions cards with period-over-period comparisons.
- The Reach and Engagement section shows daily trends over time.
- Individual post detail views show reach and impressions for each specific post.
How to Read the Numbers
| Scenario | What It Means |
|---|---|
| High reach, low impressions | Your content is being shown to many people but each person sees it only once. Typical of well-distributed posts. |
| Low reach, high impressions | Fewer people are seeing your content, but those who do are seeing it repeatedly. This can indicate strong engagement (saves, shares) or paid promotion. |
| Both growing | Your audience is expanding and your content is being distributed broadly — a strong growth signal. |
Tips for Growing Reach
- Post consistently. Platform algorithms favor accounts that post regularly.
- Use relevant hashtags. Well-chosen hashtags help your content appear in searches outside your existing followers.
- Diversify content types. Mix posts, reels, and stories to reach people who prefer different formats.
- Encourage shares. Shared content reaches entirely new audiences.
FAQ
Q: Why is my reach different from my follower count?
A: Reach includes non-followers who see your content through hashtags, shares, or the explore page. Your reach can be higher or lower than your follower count.
Q: Are reach and impressions the same across all platforms?
A: Each platform defines these metrics slightly differently, but Social Cascade normalizes them into a consistent cross-platform view.
