Editing Posters with Canva
Overview
Social Cascade integrates with Canva so you can take your auto-generated poster design and refine it further with Canva's full editing suite. Once connected, a single click sends your poster into Canva where you can add extra graphics, change fonts, or make any adjustments before downloading the final file.
Before You Start
- You need a Canva account (free or paid).
- Your poster must already be set up — make sure you have a logo uploaded and a Link in Bio shorthand saved (see Customizing Your Poster Design).
- Only team Admins and Editors can use the Canva integration. Viewers cannot open posters in Canva.
How to Connect Canva
- Go to Settings → Posters.
- Click Connect & open in Canva (or Open in Canva if your account was previously connected).
- A Canva authorization window will appear. Sign in to your Canva account and grant Social Cascade permission to create designs on your behalf.
- After authorizing, you'll be redirected back to the Posters page with a success message: "Canva connected."
- A green Canva connected badge will appear below the button confirming the link is active.
How to Open a Poster in Canva
- From Settings → Posters, customize your poster design (choose a template, adjust colors, edit text).
- Click Open in Canva.
- Social Cascade uploads your current poster as a high-resolution image into a new Canva design.
- Canva opens in a new browser tab with your poster ready to edit.
- Make your changes in Canva, then download or share the final design directly from Canva.
Troubleshooting
| Issue | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| "Couldn't connect Canva" error | The OAuth authorization was cancelled or timed out | Click Open in Canva again and complete the Canva sign-in flow. Make sure pop-ups are not blocked. |
| "Connect Canva" warning after it was previously connected | Your Canva connection token has expired | Click Open in Canva to re-authorize. Canva tokens can expire if permissions change on the Canva side. |
| Poster appears cropped or cut off in Canva | Rare sizing mismatch | Try downloading the poster from Social Cascade and uploading it to Canva manually as a workaround. If the issue persists, contact support. |
| Button says "Connect & open in Canva" instead of "Open in Canva" | Your Canva account is not yet linked | This is normal — clicking the button will start the connection flow. |
FAQ
Q: Does editing in Canva change my poster in Social Cascade?
A: No. Canva receives a copy of your poster image. Changes you make in Canva do not sync back to Social Cascade. Your Social Cascade poster template and settings remain unchanged.
Q: Do I need a paid Canva account?
A: No. The integration works with free Canva accounts. However, some Canva editing features (premium templates, elements) may require a Canva Pro subscription.
Q: Can I disconnect Canva?
A: The connection persists until the token expires or is revoked on the Canva side. You can revoke access from your Canva account settings under Apps & integrations.
