Understanding Engagement Rate

Overview

Engagement Rate measures how actively your audience interacts with your content. It is calculated by dividing total engagements (likes, comments, shares, and saves) by reach, then expressing the result as a percentage.

Engagement rate answers a critical question: Of the people who saw your content, how many took action? It is one of the best indicators of content quality and audience relevance.

How It Is Calculated

Engagement Rate = (Total Engagements / Reach) × 100

Total engagements include:

  • Likes (or reactions)
  • Comments
  • Shares (or reposts)
  • Saves (or bookmarks)

Social Cascade calculates this across all connected platforms and also per-platform when you use the platform filter.

Where to Find It

  1. Go to your Analytics page from the left sidebar.
  2. The Overview section shows your average engagement rate for the selected period.
  3. The Reach and Engagement section displays engagement trends over time.
  4. Individual post detail views show per-post engagement rate.

What Is a Good Engagement Rate?

Range Interpretation
Below 1% Low — your content may not be resonating with your audience.
1% – 3% Average — typical for most accounts.
3% – 6% Strong — your content is connecting well.
Above 6% Exceptional — you have a highly engaged audience.

Tips for Improving Engagement Rate

  • Ask questions. Posts that invite responses generate more comments.
  • Use calls to action. Explicitly ask your audience to like, share, or save.
  • Post at optimal times. Check your Posting Time heatmap to find when your audience is most active.
  • Respond to comments. Conversations in the comments boost engagement signals.

A: Standard engagement rate treats all interactions equally. Weighted Engagement Rate assigns higher value to deeper interactions like comments and shares. Both are useful — engagement rate for overall activity, weighted rate for meaningful interaction.
