How to Boost a Post on Facebook

Overview

Boosting a post on Facebook means paying to show an existing post from your Business Page to a wider audience beyond your current followers. Boosted posts appear in Feed, Stories, and sometimes Reels placements.

Boosting is done directly through Facebook or Meta Business Suite — it is not a feature within Social Cascade. Social Cascade helps you create, schedule, and publish posts. Boosting is a separate paid advertising action you take after a post is published.

Boosting is best for simple goals like increasing local visibility, driving engagement on a specific post, or getting more messages from potential patients.

Before You Start

  • You need a Facebook Business Page (not a personal profile). Personal profiles cannot boost posts.
  • You need Facebook access to the Page, or task access to Ads. Check your Page roles in Page Settings if you are unsure.
  • A valid payment method on file with Meta.
  • Special Ad Category: If your post is about health-related topics, financial products, employment, housing, or social/political issues, you may need to select a Special Ad Category during boost setup. Meta requires this for compliance.
  • Apple service fee: If you boost through the Facebook iOS app, Apple applies a 30% service fee on top of your ad spend. To avoid this fee, boost from a desktop browser or Meta Business Suite instead.
  • For more details, see Boost a post from your Facebook Page on the Meta Business Help Center.

How to Boost a Post on Facebook

  1. Go to your Facebook Business Page.
  2. Find the post you want to boost.
  3. Click or tap Boost Post below the post.
  4. Select a goal — choose what results you want: more engagement, more website visitors, more messages, or let Facebook decide automatically.
  5. If your post relates to health topics, employment, housing, credit, or social/political issues, toggle on Special Ad Category and select the appropriate category.
  6. Define your target audience — choose from your Page's followers, a suggested audience, or create a custom audience by location, age, gender, and interests.
  7. Set your budget (daily or total amount) and duration (how many days the boost runs). You control your spend — there is no required minimum, but higher budgets reach more people.
  8. Choose ad placement — leave on Advantage+ placements (recommended) to let Meta optimize where your ad appears, or select specific placements manually.
  9. Select a call-to-action button that matches your goal: Learn More, Shop Now, Send Message, Book Now, Sign Up, or others.
  10. Review the preview — Meta may show your boosted post across Feed, Stories, and Reels. Check how it looks in each placement. If Advantage+ creative is enabled, Meta may show variations of your ad creative for better performance.
  11. Click Boost Post Now to submit.
  12. Wait for Meta's ad review — most boosts are approved within minutes, though it can take up to 24 hours (longer during peak periods like Q4).

Alternate path: You can also boost from Meta Business Suite — go to Content > Posts & Stories, find the post, and click Boost next to it. The setup steps are the same.

Troubleshooting

Issue Cause Fix
"Your Page promotion doesn't meet our guidelines" Content violates Meta Advertising Standards. Review and edit the post to remove restricted language, imagery, or claims. Then resubmit. See How to troubleshoot a rejected ad.
Boost Post button is missing You don't have Ads task access on the Page, or you are viewing a personal profile instead of a Page. Check your Page roles in Page Settings. Make sure you are on your Business Page, not your personal profile.
Boosted post not delivering Audience too narrow, budget too low, or payment method failed. Widen your audience targeting, increase your budget, or update your payment method in Meta Business Suite.
Boosted post stuck in review Meta's ad review can take up to 24 hours (up to 48 hours during peak advertising periods). Wait for the review to complete. If your boost has been in review for more than 48 hours, contact Meta Business Support. See About ads in review.
Special Ad Category required Your post content relates to a regulated topic (health, housing, credit, employment, social issues). Go back to the boost setup and toggle on Special Ad Category, then select the correct category.

FAQ

A: No. Boosting is only available for Facebook Business Pages. You cannot boost posts from a personal profile.

Q: How much does boosting cost?

A: You set your own budget. There is no fixed minimum — you choose a daily or total amount, and Meta shows estimated reach for that budget. Start with a small amount to test.

Q: Can I edit a boost after launching?

A: Yes. You can edit audience, budget, and duration in Meta Business Suite or Ads Manager while the boost is running.

Q: Does Social Cascade handle boosting for me?

A: No. Social Cascade helps you create, schedule, and publish posts to Facebook. Boosting is a separate paid advertising action you do directly through Facebook or Meta Business Suite after a post is published.

Q: Is there an Apple service fee?

A: Yes. If you boost through the Facebook iOS app, Apple charges a 30% fee on your ad spend. Boost from a desktop browser or Meta Business Suite to avoid this fee.

Q: What is a Special Ad Category?

A: If your post content relates to health topics, credit, employment, housing, or social issues, Meta requires you to declare it as a Special Ad Category. This limits some targeting options but is required for compliance.
