Troubleshooting Personal Account Changes and Permissions

Changes to your personal Facebook account can sometimes break the connection between your organization's social media profiles and our platform. This guide explains what to do if you change your password or if permissions are unexpectedly revoked.

What Happens When You Change Your Facebook Password?

Changing the password for your personal Facebook profile is a great security practice. However, it may invalidate the connection between your account and any third-party apps, including Social Cascade. This is a security measure to ensure that only you can authorize access to your data.

What you will see:

  • Your scheduled posts for Facebook and Instagram will likely fail to publish.
  • Your connected profiles may show a "disconnected," "invalid token," or "reconnect" error status on our platform.
  • Analytics data for your profiles may stop updating.

The Fix:

You will need to re-authenticate your connection on our platform. Our system will guide you through the process, but you will be prompted to log back into your personal Facebook account to re-establish the connection. This simple step will grant us a new "access token" that confirms your identity and permissions.

How to Reconnect if Permissions Are Revoked

Permissions can be revoked for a few reasons:

  • You accidentally removed the app's permissions from your Facebook settings.
  • Facebook or Instagram's systems experienced a bug that caused the connection to drop.
  • Your account was flagged for suspicious activity, and as a security measure, Facebook revoked app permissions.

When this happens, you will see a similar "disconnected" or "reconnect" error on our platform.

Step-by-step to re-grant permissions:

  1. Check Your Facebook Business Integrations. This is the central hub for managing all the apps connected to your Facebook profile.
    • Log in to your personal Facebook account.
    • Go to Settings & privacy > Settings.
    • In the left menu, click Business Integrations.
  2. Find the Ayrshare App: In the list of business integrations, find the Ayrshare platform. This is how Social Cascade connects to Facebook. If it's not there, it means the permissions have been completely removed.
  3. Remove and Reconnect (Recommended): The most effective way to re-grant permissions and ensure a clean connection is to remove our app completely and then reconnect it.
    • In the "Business Integrations" list, find our app and click View and edit or Remove.
    • Click Remove. Do not check the box to "delete all posts, photos, and videos" unless you truly want to erase your past content.
    • Go back to our platform and follow the steps to reconnect your Facebook and Instagram profiles. You will be prompted to log in to Facebook and grant the necessary permissions again.

Important Tip: When re-granting permissions, make sure you grant all of the permissions requested in the pop-up window. Deselecting any of the permissions can lead to future post failures.
