Why Your Social Account Was Automatically Disconnected
Overview
To keep your team's posting reliable, Social Cascade watches your connected social profiles for ongoing publishing or analytics errors. If a profile keeps failing for 24 hours straight, Social Cascade will automatically disconnect it and email your team so you can fix it. This article explains why that happens, what the email means, and how to get your profile reconnected.
Why Social Cascade Auto-Disconnects a Profile
When a social platform (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, or YouTube) keeps rejecting requests from Social Cascade for an extended period, it almost always means one of three things:
- The connection token expired or was revoked — usually after a password change, two-factor authentication update, or admin permissions change on the social platform.
- Permissions were removed — someone with admin access disabled Social Cascade in the platform's connected-apps settings, or the page/business asset was transferred.
- The platform blocked access — Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, or YouTube flagged the account for review and temporarily suspended posting.
Continuing to retry a broken connection wastes platform rate limits and can trigger further restrictions, so after 24 hours of consecutive failures, Social Cascade pauses the profile.
The Disconnect Email
When a profile is auto-disconnected, your team receives an email from support@socialcascade.co letting you know which profile was deactivated. If the profile remains disconnected after about 3 days, we'll send one follow-up reminder—then we stop, so your inbox is not flooded.
While a profile is disconnected:
- No new posts will be scheduled or published to that profile.
- Already-published posts stay live—only the connection in Social Cascade is paused.
- Analytics for past posts on that profile will pause until the profile is reconnected.
How to Reconnect
- Log in to Social Cascade.
- Open Team Settings → Profiles.
- Find the profile marked as Disconnected (or no longer listed) and click + Add Profile to re-add it for the matching platform.
- When the social platform prompts you, approve all requested permissions. Skipping permissions is the most common cause of repeat disconnections.
- Pick the same Page, Instagram Business profile, TikTok Business account, or YouTube channel you had connected before.
For step-by-step reconnection instructions per platform, see Reconnecting or Relinking Your Unlinked Facebook, Instagram, or TikTok Account and Connecting Your YouTube Channel to Social Cascade.
How to Avoid Future Auto-Disconnects
- Stay an admin. Make sure the user who connected the profile is still an Admin of the Facebook Page, Instagram Business account, TikTok Business account, or YouTube channel.
- Reconnect after password or 2FA changes. Any time you change the password or update two-factor authentication on the social platform, plan to re-add the profile in Social Cascade.
- Watch for platform warnings. If Meta, TikTok, or YouTube has flagged your account, resolve the issue in the platform's own dashboard before reconnecting.
- Don't ignore the email. Reconnecting promptly limits gaps in your publishing schedule.
Troubleshooting
| Issue | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Profile keeps auto-disconnecting after I reconnect | Some required permissions were not granted during reconnection. | Re-add the profile and confirm every permission checkbox before continuing. |
| I reconnected but posts are still not publishing | The profile may be paused on the social platform side (review, restriction, or billing hold). | Log in to Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, or YouTube directly and resolve any account warnings. |
| I never got the disconnect email | The notification was filtered to spam, or no team owner email is on file. | Search your inbox for "Social Cascade" and confirm a valid team owner email under Team Settings. |
| Multiple profiles disconnected at the same time | A single password change or admin removal often affects every connected profile that uses that login. | Reconnect each profile and verify admin access on the social platform. |
FAQ
Q: How long do I have to reconnect before something is lost?
A: Nothing on the social platform itself is lost. Scheduled posts that were waiting on a disconnected profile will not publish, so reconnect as soon as you can to avoid gaps in your calendar.
Q: Can I disable the auto-disconnect?
A: No. The 24-hour auto-disconnect is a safety feature to protect your account from being throttled or blocked by the social platforms.
Q: Will Social Cascade send me reminders if I don't reconnect?
A: One reminder email about 3 days after the disconnect, then no further automated emails. Reconnect from Team Settings → Profiles whenever you're ready.
